UK Stoner Rock alumni The Dead Pirates are back with another solid EP full of warm fuzz. We weren’t the only ones that ate up their last release of hedonistic stomp, & they’ve used that momentum to fuel a righteous follow up in Over The Hills.

Opener “Over the Tiny Hills” starts out innocently enough. But the calm is lacerated less than a minute in as a barrage of immediately recognizable psych overdrive sweeps you off on the epic journey the title alludes to.

The Dead Pirates are throwing a fastball here, not a knuckle or a curve. Dark brooding (actual) guitar rock is their game. Slow brewed like black coffee. Heard best sans earbuds, You need Blown speakers on those big hi fi systems we hadn’t regularly seen since the mid 90’s when we all got a discman for Christmas. There is a middle finger being raised here.

The riffs continue in “Arthur” while lyrics make nods to the debauchery that surrounded the Round Table. They stack the table high with vintage tubes amps and let the top blow off. The B-side “Lancelot” lumbers on slogged out drums and a steady groove that sticks in the mud it rose from. But then Sir Lancelot draws his blade & the latter half of the track is packed with some of the hottest licks yet leaving you on a bit of a cliffhanger…

Comforting to know the EP is only a foreshadowing of a full-length!

You can pick up the EP now on the band’s Bandcamp, complete with some killer album art from band founder McBess.

P.S. don’t miss the limited run of heavy white vinyls. Only 1000 made.

Well that’s what we call a good review
